You might have to take a sprained ankle serious. Especially if you are travellers walking close to forest and far from cities with a huge backpack with a tent, sleeping bag, camping equipment and some food in it, you have to be more careful while walking. “Consult a doctor for serious injuries”. When your ankle is sprained, if you are in a beach only accessible by boat or trekking, you might have to wait till the next day under full moon on a beach where turtles lay their eggs. Then finding a “public hospital” in a country where you are a stranger, getting lost among signs in an unknown language, finding a wheelchair, queuing… We don’t have an x-ray because of its price and the queue. Anyway, probably it is not broken; it will get better soon… We go to Kuala Lumpur the following day to wait for our plane to South Korea. We just rest in the house of our friend Adida. She is in England at that time. Of course, we couldn’t foresee the injury before buying the tickets… We will spend two days in a huge city, Seoul, with an injured foot… Then we will take our plane to Russia… Should we go back to Turkey? Wait, wait, we will deal with it somehow. Adida’s friend takes us to the airport. We are lucky that we have friends in foreign countries and not alone. In Seoul, we stay with our friend Yongmin, far from the complexity of the city. This is a return visit. We hosted him in Istanbul, 2 years ago. We see concrete blocks...
Farewell Southeast Asia: Cambodia and Malaysia

Farewell Southeast Asia: Cambodia and Malaysia

After 100 meters of walking through the gate, a couple of kilometers away from Aranyaprathet –a border town of Thailand-, we enter Cambodia. In several minutes, we get our visa for 30 days after paying 30$ and start waiting for the bus to go to Siem Reap. Currency of Cambodia is US Dollars ($). Riel is also in use, but especially in big settlements and touristic areas, prices are in $. While paying, dollars and riels are used together and make us calculate regularly as 4000 Riels = 1 $. We take a minibus to Siem Reap for 9 $ per person. Siem Reap is the tourism capital of Cambodia, because there areTemples of Angkor. We find a double room for 7 $, a bit out of the center. Cambodia is not as cheap as we expected from the articles we read before. Or our expectation is too low due to our low budget after one year on the road. You can rent a bicycle, motorcycle or a tuk tuk to go to Angkor from Siem Reap. A good stamina and a couple of days are needed to visit the place by bicycle both because of the distance and the heat. We visit Angkor by renting a tuk tuk for 10 $ for a day. Also 20 $/per person is paid as an entrance fee for one day. Angkor is a temple complex in a large area surrounded by a forest. Angkor Wat, Angor Thom and Ta Phrom are some of the most important temples. You can find information about Angkor everywhere; if you hear about it for the...
Mouse is not Just for Computers

Mouse is not Just for Computers

We arrive Marmariç after a long climbing, passing near old houses whose walls stands still. We will be there to get Permaculture Design Course and to take place in the kitchen and in the construction of buildings using earth and stone.                 Different people coming from different places and different lives… All of them have a different story but similar dreams. Those who are trying escape from where civilization trapped.                 Marmariç is a village in where approximately fifteen people living and with volunteers population is rising. One of the places where seeds of a livable planet spread.                 We take classes from the process of nature with Mustafa. About everything from a rain drop that didn’t fall on the ground to a leaf that goes in soil, about the patterns of nature and designs of life.                 The curiosity and uneasiness of the first time passes quickly. Like we were always here and we used to know each other always; since the time when the universe began to expand and stars began shining. Since when the earth has emerged and the life began.                 Everybody is like learning everything again and for the first time. We examine meanings of words and language, like we live the childhood of our lives again. We understand nature like kids trying to understand it freely. We are like listening to sounds, not words.                 Every short break after classes is spent by trying to calm the density of our minds. By asking the questions that we haven’t asked for a long time.                 We walk in gardens in which abundance of forest...
Goodbye Ida Mountains

Goodbye Ida Mountains

We left Ida mountains and  hit the road towards Marmariç after staying with Iraz and Eren in Çavuşlu and with İlknur and Tom in Aşağı Çavuş . After Kalkım, before arriving Edremit we had to stop at the middle of the day, at the top of the mountain, when the temperature reached 100 degrees. But we used to know something.                 Do not stop the engine if it is overheated. Let it work in idle. If the temperature doesn’t decrease, turn the air conditioner on. But if you have a car whose air conditioner doesn’t operate, there is nothing to do. And we wait. The temperature doesn’t fall; steam is coming out of the engine. We take risk, incurably we stop the car. We check the motor to see what’s happening.  But it is hard to open the motor in our caravan. First we should fold the sheet. Then we take the bed out. We lift the isolation cover. And finally the cover of the engine…  We add some cold water to cool the engine but it can’t pass to the part where the water is boiling. Why? Because if you heat the water it dilates. It will go away after evaporation but the pressure pushes cold water. I open the hot cover, as there is nothing else to do. With a cloth in my hand and taking cover for my head…  Steam goes out. There, we apply cold water. If we stuck in there, we cannot call for help. Our mobile phones do not operate.                 After a while, we start driving. We climb the hill 20 km/h....
Preparation Process Vol.1

Preparation Process Vol.1

Approximately 2 years have passed since we have decided to set for the journey and started to make savings. It has been approximately 3 months since we left our jobs and 1 month since we have closed our home.  But “the last preparations”  stage didn’t come to an end yet, maybe it will never end. We knew that we wouldn’t start this journey like preparing our back packs and going for a holiday, but we hadn’t expected that it would be such a long process. Now we are counting days restively to leave auto-industries and step into the nature.               While were dreaming to simplify our lives, we have spent a lot of money and energy to buy a caravan, even it is a very simple caravan, and it’s never ending maintenance expenses because of its age. There are a lot of people asking us why we didn’t buy a better caravan. We would be working for 2 years more for it and postpone our dreams. Maybe we would have new health problems in this process and our trip would be postponed more and more. Yes, it is not easy to realize their dreams for people like us, who don’t live in material wealth. But it doesn’t have to be easy, it’s enough not be impossible. Even the difficulties we have now and we will have while travelling are exhausting, they gives pleasure and experience that you can’t buy with pieces of paper. We will remember them with a smile while telling it to our grandchildren,...
